Smart Columbus Project Data
The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) pledged $40 million to Columbus as the winner of the Smart City Challenge. By challenging American cities to use emerging transportation technologies to address their most pressing problems, USDOT aimed to spread innovation through a mixture of competition, collaboration and experimentattion.
Smart Columbus Operating System serves as the data “backbone” for our smart city projects, serving to collect and transmit data about the projects, and to capture performance data reported to the USDOT and the public. Connected Vehicle Environment
A connected vehicle environment will allow vehicles and traffic signals to “talk” to each other, alerting drivers to potential hazards, allowing emergency vehicles to move through intersections quicker, and enabling traffic managers to adjust operations.

Prenatal Trip Assistance Application 
The prenatal trip assistance study will address Columbus’s high infant mortality rates by connecting pregnant women without reliable transportation to dependable, timely and safe rides to doctors’ appointments and pharmacies.
